Everybody wants to know what Pat Quinn has been reading lately! Well, here are some books that every teacher should have on their shelf. Each of these books should be available at your local library, and all of them are available on Amazon.com or your local bookstore.
Helping Your Kids Cope with Divorce the Sandcastles Way
by M. Gary Neuman
This book should be required reading for any teacher who works with kids with divorced or divorcing parents. Reading this book was a breakthrough moment for my dealing with certain kids. If you work with kids from broken families, you need this book!
The DNA of Relationships
by Dr. Gary Smalley
Another breakthrough book for me because I always blamed others when there was conflict in any relationship. In simple language, Gary Smalley describes not only the problem with any struggling relationship but also the solution. A GREAT book for teachers who want to get into better relationships with their students.
Bringing Up Boys
by James C. Dobson
Absolutely one of the best parenting books I can recommend. If you parent or teach boys, you need to read this book. I have had a number of women write to tell me that they never really understood their husbands until they read this book! Truly a life-changer!
The Five Love Languages
by Gary Chapman
People tell me after they read this book that it not only improved their teaching, but it also improved every relationship in their life. I credit this book with improving my teaching, my friendships, my family and much more.Because of the popularity of this book, Dr. Chapman followed it up with others including The Five Love Languages of Children, and The Five Love Languages of Teenagers but I still like the original the best!
I also love...
Breaking the Cycle of Failure
by Dr. Carole Mottaz
and
Classroom Power Relations by Dr. Mary Manke
